Camry drove ~300 miles
The 1997 Microsquirted Camry drove ~150 ~300 miles to Road America and back. Somehow it didn’t immediately blow up. A/C blew cold with only the dual-pressure switch as a safety. Gas mileage? Abysmal, probably 18mpg at best. The 560cc injectors were only in for about 2 days prior to driving it up there. Very retarded…

Clutches, and flywheels, and discs, oh my.
One night about a year ago, I went down a rabbit hole, trying to figure out if there was a cheap and light flywheel that will bolt to a 5S crank, but have the surface area and pressure plate mounting of a 3SGTE (3S from here forward) flywheel. This is because the 5S uses a…

Junkyard engine build
The car has been down for the better part of a year. I’ve had a junkyard engine on a stand for most of that time. I’ve since installed Maxpeedingrods forged rods in it, along with NPR stock sized pistons, new freeze plugs, etc (from a Enginetech rebuild kit). I’m planning on putting it back together…

Minor Camry updates
It’s been a while since I’ve posted. I really wanted to enter the beat-up turbo Camry in a couple of car shows this summer, but the car leaked so much oil that I felt bad even driving it. This appeared to be due to the oil pump seals. I got the car in the garage…

Sloppy fix?
I have an engine on the stand waiting to go in the car, and I figured I’d check out the damage on the knocking engine… It didn’t look too bad, so I threw a bearing in the rod that spun… and maybe it’s fine? Edit: It blew up same day, this was also when I…

Junkyard engine
Pulled a junkyard 5S and it looked fine at a glance, turns out that it had 1&1/2 spun rod bearings. Exchanging the pulled engine for one with hopefully 100% less spun rods. Assuming this exchange goes well, I found my new favorite junkyard.

Pour one out for the 215,000 5S. It flew too close to the sun.

Boost creep
The Camry is up and running, now with 100% less crank sync loss. It’s about ~30f out and I have spark cut set to 184kpa, and it hits it here in every gear. It still kinda seems like this new clutch isn’t holding power very well. Fuel pump upgrade and E85 coming soon.

CT26 rebuild
I rebuilt the very old CT26 that was previously sitting on a garage floor for 10ish years. Bought 2 ebay kits about the same price (~$30), one kit included a thrust spacer but had a 18 point compressor nut, the second kit didn’t include the thrust bearing spacer, but included a new plate for the…

Heat wrap and injectors installed
I added “Subaru WRX 565cc” injectors, they’re about 7.5mm shorter, so the plastic spacer for the fuel rail needed to be removed, and replaced with 11.5 (ended up being ~10.5mm, upper rubber bushing should be absorbing the 1mm difference). Top and bottom o-rings/bushings are the same diameter. The harness plug is identical as well. The…
